Flowers for Algernon Book

🇺🇸 Unfortunately I didn’t find any deep ideas and knowledge in Daniel Keyes’s novel “Flowers for Algernon”, but it was quite interesting time reading.

Keyes’s described hard destiny of person who has mental retardation disease, but who can overcome it with science experiment help.

In my opinion there are some bad sides of novel: strange female characters, illogical behaviors of doctors and scientists and this behaviors lead to expected bad consequences, and quite simple plot.

But despite of all facts it was great reading time the book that was written in diary style which was hypothetically written by the main character

Farenheit 451

🇺🇸 Dystopian Bradbury’s ideas which were written in “Farenheit 451” novel more than half century ago are relevant nowadays. I think a huge amount of them will be relevant in distant future and in my personal opinion this novel is timeless

The main character with his neighbor helps starting understand, something going wrong with society. People lost the tools that help them think and discourse

The Count of Monte Cristo

🇺🇸 Who is the Count of Monte Cristo? By the hand of God or devil, with the latter of whom an agreement was concluded to grant Dantes the gift of providence?

Despite the fact that Monte Cristo considered himself the hand of God, he bowed to the devil because the mission of his life consisted of only one thing – terrible and painful revenge on his offenders, which is undoubtedly considered the greatest sin.

All his revenge is carried out through the creation of a performance whose director no one sees. Monte Cristo is the invisible master who sets in motion the mechanisms of a large system. Who is he? The answers can be found in Dumas’ novel

Fates in cozy home which need to be changed

Production novel “Hotel” is the second Arthur Hailey’s product that I read. Unique destenies in New Orlean’s hotel calls “St. Gregory” despite the fact that globalization happened in industry, the New Orlean’s hotel still does’t loose it’s unique features but also has financial crisis.

The author wrote things in detail and you start to understand how hotel system works and it’s very interesting. The book read very simple but despite the fact that it has plot twists, the novel quite predictable and sometimes naive. But I strongly recommend read that book for people whole like that kind of genre.

David Allen – GTD

For the first time I heard about GTD methodology from Evernote certified expert Stacey Harmon who shared practices how to use GTD with Evernote in her author’s materials

I was quite interested in while reading a dozen pages of David Allen’s book before buying one but after purchasing and reading whole one sadly conclude – all 400 pages can be structured in a little 50.

Unfortunately David Allen didn’t avoid “water” in his book and all pages seems quite similar while reading. To increase pages, book contains quotes and graphics and in my personal opinion more of them don’t bring any value.

I like “Getting Things Done” and I started use it and actually it helps me very much but according to my point of view I recommend learn practice via short manuals and official website.

Facebook: The Inside Story

At the turn of the new year, walking through a bookstore, I saw a tall rack filled with blue books from a local publishing house. Even then, having taken a copy from the shelf and skimming through the table of contents, I was interested in the work of the author of the book, journalist Steven Levy.

A little bit later, I received this book as a gift and on the same day in the evening I took it from the shelf just to look through, but it was no longer possible to tear myself away.

The author describes the history of the origin of the idea of social networks, reveals the personality of Zuckerberg and other members of the team, describes a huge number of problems that the company faced. All facts are supported by a huge number of sources for independent fact-checking

I recommend reading it to all fans of this genre and not only in order to clearly understand what the blue application and related products of the company really are.

Chasing New Horizons: Inside the Epic First Mission to Pluto

In 2015 I read news about space probe flying through Pluto system on working at that time geektimes (now habr) website. Remember shocking news about some troubles in main computer, than fixing it, flying near by Pluto and first photos.

The book showed me what actually happened behind the scene starting from Alan’s idea in 1989 till triumph in 2015. Reading that book I totally understood what some science actually called exact science and only one little mistake will be able to ruine whole multi-year expedition.

We can perceive fanaticism in different ways but only true fanatics who sacrificing their personal lives in favor work actually achieve huge results and we, as human, can reap the benefits of their results.

I wish all human find their life path like New Horizons team!

The Book Thief

This book is the first one of the author’s works which I read and also my debut in the genre of military literature. I can say that I was most imbued with the history of the Hubermann family and their close.

Alas, I had previously seen the film “The Book Thief” by director Brian Percival, and “alas” not because the movie is bad, but “alas”, because the book as a primary source is much deeper, more detailed and more fully show the events of not so long history.

It is interesting that no one other than death talk about this story. “He” doesn’t frighten, “he” is fair and logical, and “he” simply tells the story that he once read from the manuscripts to the main character Liesel Meminger, a girl from the “heavenly” street far beyond the outskirts of Munich.

This work will not leave anyone indifferent. I recommend!

Arthur Hailey – Airport

The work of Arthur Hailey – Airport is an air crossroads of the world that unites many destinies. This production novel impressed me with its meticulousness in describing every detail of the large airport system, describing the characters and plot twists. It seems that the author got a part of real time (18.30-01.30) from the life of the airport and the people associated with it and integrated it into the great product I will definitely continue to read other books by the author.
